BAIT Economy — How Credits Work
2 min read
One BAIT = One Dollar
BAIT is the in-app currency for DerbyFish. The conversion is dead simple. One BAIT is worth one US dollar. No fluctuation. No speculation. No crypto nonsense.
How You Earn BAIT
There are several ways to stack BAIT:
- Badge perks — Compete Badge members get 5 BAIT per month. Captain Badge members get more.
- Derby participation — Some derbies award BAIT for placing on the leaderboard.
- Achievements — Hit milestones in your FishDex or catch log and earn bonus BAIT.
- Direct purchase — Buy BAIT at the 1:1 rate whenever you need it.
How You Spend BAIT
BAIT powers the features that need infrastructure behind them:
- Verified Fishing Sessions — $1/hour to run the full verification pipeline.
- Derby entry fees — Some derbies charge BAIT to enter. Free derbies exist too.
- Fish Card minting — Turn a verified catch into a permanent digital collectible.
- Shop purchases — Gear, merchandise, and digital goods.
Why Not Just Use Dollars?
Two reasons.
First, BAIT lets us reward participation without touching payment processors for every micro-transaction. You earn 5 BAIT from your badge. You spend 3 on a fishing session. No credit card swipe needed.
Second, it creates a closed economy where we can track what anglers value. That data makes the platform better.
Transparency
Every BAIT transaction shows up in your account history. Earned, spent, or purchased — you can trace every credit. No hidden fees. No surprise charges.
The economy is simple by design. Fish more, earn more, spend on what matters to you.
